Remote. It Desktop - Overview and Features

Remote. It Desktop for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Remote. It Desktop for Windows, macOS, and Linux is a powerful tool that makes remote access to common software applications on remote computers and devices easy.  The Desktop also allows you to configure Services on the local device.  Configuring Remote. It Services on your Device is optional and you can, if you like, simply use the Remote. It Desktop to make connections to other Services.

Remote.It web portal

Most of the features of the remote.it Desktop Application can also be found at the web portal at https://app.remote.it.

Features

Remote. It Desktop for Mac, Windows, and Linux lets you create and use persistent peer to peer Links to your TCP and UDP applications, and more. As always, no port forwarding is needed.

Client and target configuration in one

While the most obvious use of Remote. It is as a client to initiate connections to other devices, it also allows optional configuration of connection targets on the local device.  See Set up a new device for more details.

Peer to peer connections
Peer to peer connections usually offer better data throughput than proxy connections made using the remote.it web portal or the REST API. Peer to peer connections also persist until manually closed and feature throughput monitoring.  See Peer to Peer vs Proxy Connections for more information.
Quick launching
Persistent connections make it easy for you to bookmark your remote.it connections in your other applications. remote.it also lets you configure a command line to launch other services with a single click. HTTP, SSH, and VNC are all supported integrations.  See Connecting to your remote.it Services for more details.
On-demand connections (Remote.It Desktop only)
Starting from version 3.0.2 of the Desktop application, on-demand has been implemented for connections. This means that immediately after a connection is created, it will be in a "Idle" state, waiting for a connection (that is, launching the associated application), and will initiate the actual connection to the target device when it is actually accessed by the application.  See Two ways of using remote.it Connections for more details.
Organizations
The Organizations feature feature allows you to quickly share all of your Remote. It Devices and their Services to one or more Remote. It accounts.  See Organizations for more details.
LAN sharing of remote Services
Remote. It allows you to share a connection with other users on the network. You can connect to a remote device and allow other users to connect to it through your system’s LAN IP address on the port you choose. Your local shared connections have the same great security as a remote proxy, only on your private network.  See LAN Sharing for more details.
Network services

Remote. It Desktop allows you to configure connections to applications running on other devices on your LAN without requiring you to install Remote. It on those devices.  For example, you may have a printer on your LAN that you would like to access remotely.  As long as your PC is connected to the internet and awake, it can host a connection to the printer.  See Manage remote.it Services on your PC or Mac for more details.

Network scanning

Local area network scanning is now built in. Scan your network for local applications and add them quickly and easily with a click. This lets you make Remote. It connections to LAN devices without installing any software on them.  See Manage remote.it Services on your PC or Mac for more details.

Announcements

Announcements let Remote. It headquarters keep you informed of new releases, planned maintenance, and more.  When there is a new announcement you will see a red indicator on the "Announcements" button in the left panel. Click on the "Announcements" button to view the Announcements.  See Announcements for more details.

If you run into an issue or have any questions, use the blue "Support" widget in the lower right corner of this screen, or send an e-mail to support@remote.it.
