Set up your Windows computer for Remote Desktop
You will need to do this on the computer you want to view and control
- Enable Remote Desktop
Microsoft supports Windows 10 Pro and Windows 11 Pro Only - Adjust your power settings
You will need to make sure that your computer is not turned off, set to sleep or hibernate so that you can connect to it at any time. You can allow the monitor to turn off. - Get your Windows Computer’s hostname
You will need this for the configuration in the next step.
Open Settings, type "device name" in the search field, and click View your PC name. You can also click the System icon, then About, and find the hostname under Device name.
Optionally you could use the computer’s LAN IP address (However it should be static so that it doesn’t change)
Add Service In Remote.It
- In the Remote. It application (desktop, mobile or app.remote.it), navigate to the Jumpbox device page and click + (Add Service)
- Select RDP in the service types. (This may be found under “More”)
- Set the “Service Host”. Enter the Windows Computer’s hostname followed by “.local” For example, if the Windows Computer’s name is “office-pc”, you would enter “office-pc.local” or enter the LAN IP address.
- “Service Port”. Leave the default port set unless you have changed the port for Remote Desktop (Not common)
- Enter a name that you will recognize for connecting on the service list. For example, you could use the hostname “office-pc” or “Office PC Remote Desktop”
- Click “Save”
Connect
You will need to do this on each device you wish to use the Remote Desktop. For example, on another Windows computer, Mac, iPad, iPhone, or your Android phone or tablet. Install Windows App (formerly called Remote Desktop and is available for free from Microsoft Store, Google Play, and the Mac App Store). This will be the app that uses the connection.
- From any device you wish to connect from, open the Remote. It application (Desktop, mobile, app.remote.it)
- Select your Jumpbox device
- Click the “play” button on the Remote Desktop Service.
- Use the connection information in the Windows App
- If using the Desktop app, you may be able to launch the Windows App by clicking the Launch button. When prompted for the username enter the username used for sign in on the Windows Computer (office-pc in this example). See more on connection settings.
- You can manually add the PC to the Windows app by using “Add PC”, then enter the endpoint URL and port from the Remote. It app connection. See image below on copying the endpoint.
NOTE: This connection information is private to you and will not work if shared to anyone else.
