Step 2. Create a Secure Parameter Store

The next step is to protect your Access Key by creating a Parameter Store in AWS. This step ensures that your Keys are secure within Amazon. This step is important because if your Keys are exposed, your remote.it account may become compromised. You only have to complete this step once per account.

1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console, found here: https://aws.amazon.com/

2. Navigate to the Systems Manager. You can search for Systems Manager in the search bar.

Note:

You will have to create two parameters, one for your Access Key and one for your Secret Access Key. The names of these parameters must be specific, as remote.it software uses the names to find and access the keys. If the names of your parameters do not match what is presented in this guide, remote.it will not be able to register the Instance to your account.

5. Create the parameter for your non-secret Access Key.
The name for this parameter must be:

/remoteit/accessKeyId

6. Open the .csv file you downloaded in the previous step and get ready to copy and paste your key value.

7. Keep the rest of the settings at their default value, and enter the key into the Value field at the bottom.

8. Click Create parameter.

9. Create a secure parameter for your Secret Access Key by clicking Create parameter again.
The name for this parameter must be:

/remoteit/secretAccessKey

10. Change Type to SecureString.

11. Retrieve your secret key from your .csv file.

12. Keep the rest of the settings at their default value, and paste the secret key into the Value field at the bottom.

13. Click Create parameter.

You've now securely stored your Access Keys within Amazon.
